Abstract: |
In the MeSH database, orthostatic hypotension (OH) is defined as a decrease in systol ic blood pressure (SBP) of at least 20 mm Hg or diastolic blood pressure (DBP) of at least 10 mm Hg within 3 min of standing. The therapeutic goal of OH is to identify any reversible causes and restore function, rather than normalize blood pressure. A wide variety of medicines is available for the treatment of OH. However, coexistent hypertension poses a particular therapeutic dilemma, as treatment of one condition may worsen the other. No standard guidelines for the treatment of concomitant OH and hypertension exist. This report presents a case of OH syncope and coexistent hypertension that was successfully treated with Chinese medicine (CM) |
