| In the practice of Chinese medicinal herbal therapy for medical emergencies,the availability of medicinal herbal preparations for massive intravenous infusion is imperative for research work in question to be exhaustively and perseveringly carried out.To meet this practical challenge,we have devoted ourselves to the development of"Fluid-replacing"and"Yin- restoring"injections ever since 1979.After the clinical application of 324 cases(223 cases were given intravenously either injectio"Fluid-replacing"or injectio"Yin-restoring",and 101 cases were given 5% glucose saline,5-10%。glucose solution,or Ringer’s solution,serving as the control group)and the experimental study of the pharmacological action,chemistry, incompatibility,and standardization of the drugs in question,the following conclusions were arrived at: Ⅰ.Clinical assessment of"Fluid-replacing"and"Yin-restoring"injections:Preliminary observations have shown the following similarities betweem the trial and control groups:(1)Both are safe and have no side effects.There is noappreeiable difference between the trial group and control group in temperature,respiration,pluse,blood pressure,peripheral blood picture,urinalysis,renal and hepatic functions,blood glucose,electrolytes,carbon dioxide combining power,and electrocar- diograph before and after administration.(2)Both preparatious arc compatible with many other drugs.The characteristic dissimilarities manifested by the massive infusion of herbal solutions are that:(1)it shows marked improvement of micro- circulation;(2)it contains not only glucose and sodium chloride,but also many organic substances such as fructose,sucrose, galactose,steroid saponins,as well as elements.such as K,Na,Ca,Mg.Al,Ag,Cu,Fe,Pb,Si,etc,;and(3)it has.certain beneficial influence on humoral immunity. 2.pharmacologic experiments have shown that the"Fluid-replacing"injection has extremely prominent anti- inflammatory action and improves permeability of capillaries,while the"Yin-restoring"injection has a rather speedy anti- pyretic action. 3.The preparation contains the sameconstituents as theancient prescription"Fluid-replacingdecoetion",differing-only in the dosage of individual components.It can be administered intravenously to replenish Yin fluids.It contains not only water and inorganic salt,but also a number of sugars,steroid saponins,and trace elements.These constituents probably exert actions equivalent to what is known in traditional Chinese medicine as"Yin-saving"and"Fluid-preserving".It seems justifiable to say that the new preparations,"Fluid-replacing"and"Yin-restoring"injections,are handy in administration and reliable in therapeutic efficacy,and therefore represent a fruitful attempt at improving the management of medical emergencies with TCM therapy. |
