| "Shi Xiao Powder"(失笑散),a medicine composed Cattail Pollen and Trogopterus Dung,which was recorded for the first time in"Formularies of the Bureau of People’s Welfare Pharmacies"has the effect of resolving blood stasis,softening hard mass and relieving pain and is mainly used to treat diseases resulting from blood stagnancy and stasis.In recent years,"Shi Xiao Powder"has been commonly used in the treatment of angina pectoris with good results. Results of observation of 47 mice with electronic microscopy are reported.The mice are divided into 4 groups:(1)normal;(2)stress(bathing in ice water or centrifugation);(3)experimental(fed with cholesterol to produce atherosclerosis)and(4)"Shi Xiao Powder"(fed with"Shi Xiao Powder").In the normal group,the myocardial caplillaries,platelet counts and myocardial tissues are all normal.In the stress group,the myocardial capillaries appear to be contracted and deformed,but they recover easily.The platelet counts are 8 times higher than normal and most of the platelets are aggregated.The mitochondria in myocardium are damaged mildly.In the experimental group,the myocardial capillary presents obvious contricture,most of the platelets are aggregated or crowded,and the mitochondria in myocardium are damaged more obviously. In"Shi Xiao Powder"group,stenosis of the capillary is found 10 times more severe than that of the experimented group.The platelet count is decreased.Most of platelets appear scattered and the damage of myocardial mitochondria is obviously reduced.Our results suggest that"Shi Xiao Powder"has good effects on ultrastructural pathological changes of myocardial capillaries brought on by stress atherosclerosis. |
