| Uveitis is a disease caused by immunological disorders.Its treatment with corticosteroids and immunological inhibitors provides a satisfactory immediate therapeutic effect,but with certain side effects.According to the TCM principles of treatment by differentiating syndrome,we have,since 1977,used decoctions of appropriate Chinese medicines to cure the disease and for those who had been under systemic corticosteroid treatment,we gradually decreased the dose of hormones,till their complete withdrawal.Local corticosteroid drops were continued as before,in order to keep up the efficacy of the therapy. This article analyses the results of immunological tests in 40 cases of various types of uveitis treated by TCM and focuses on 24 cases with complete data.Ocular signs and immunological criteria were improved,with ERFC test rising from 47.42%(abnormal)to 51.25%(normal)(P<0.05).The mean values of immunoglobulins(IgG,IgA and IgM)showed no marked difference(P>0.05).Of the 24 cases,12 were considered satisfactory,4 effective,6 improved,while only 2 cases proved definitely ineffective. The results reported here suggest that TCM is effective in regnlating the immunological functions of human organism. |
