| A model of rabbit Masugi nephritis was duplicated so as to observe the treatment of anti-GBM nephritis with astragalus membranaceus(AM)and explore its therapeutic mechanism.The experimental results are as follows:(1)The appetite,weight-gain and general condition of rabbits treated with AM were better than those of the control.This might be related to the improvement of nonspecific immunologic function of these animals by AM,i.e.,its tonic effect.(2)The disappearance of proteinuria and immunofluorescence from glomerular basement membrane of the rabbits treated with AM was faster than that from the control.This fact suggests that the chief effect of AM is the enhancement of cellular immunity,including phagocytosis of mesangial cell.On the contrary,the disappearance of proteinuria and glomerular immunofluorescence after AM treatment in rabbits with obscure deficiency syndrome was slower than that of the control,which may result from exacerbation of immuno-reaction of glomerular focal lesion by AM.Therefore differentiation of symptom-complexes must be kept in mind when we treat anti-GBM nephritis with AM.In addition,there is no marked difference of renal function and pathological changes between the two groups.Under the same experimental condition,none of the rabbits treated with AM suffered from tinea pedis and scabies,while all the animals in the control group suffered from these diseases.This interesting observation merits further investigation. |
