| Fifty patients who suffered from exophthalmos(proptometer greater than 18mm and retro-bulbar space greater than 13.5mm)but had normal functions of thyroids were selected for acupuncture study.Some local and general symptoms and signs of blood stasis were found by means of TCM’s"four diagnosis method", such as saw-tooth type torsion of conjunctival vessels,spots of blood stasis at the end of blood vessels, ecchymosis on the tongue and skin purpura,etc.32 cases were examined for microcirculation of the nail fold. Abnormal vascular morphology,slow and nonlinear blood flow,stasis at the tip portion of the vascular loops,and the aggregation of blood cells,etc.were observed.Blood rheology was also determined in these cases.It was found that whole blood relative viscosity(high shear rate and low shear rate)and hematocrit were higher than the normal group(P<0.001,0.01 respectively)and plasma relative viscosity also tended to rise.It suggests that the physical and chemical property of the blood is abnormally thick and viscous.The above-mentioned laboratory findings conform to the clinical manifestations of blood stasis.Immunological functions of cells and body fluid were examined in 50 cases without markedly abnormal result.This shows that there are differences in immunological reaction depending on the differences in stages of hyperthyroidism exophthalmos. |
