| Research into the pathology and treatment of retinal vein occlusion is being made in China and in some other countries.The patients reported here are treated on the principle of differentiation of symptom- complexes,with the stage of the disease taken into consideration.We used"Long Dan Xie Gan decoction" (龙胆泻肝汤)and"Xi Jiao Di Huang decoction"(犀角地黄汤)for the cases with"liver-fire","Zhi Bat Di Huang decoction"(知柏地黄汤)and"Er Zhi pill"(二至丸)for the cases with fire symptoms due to deficiency of Yin essence,"Xue Fu Zhu Yu decoction"(血府逐瘀汤)or"Bu Yang Huan Wu decoction"(补阳还五汤) for the cases with blood stasis and stagnancy,"Wen Dan decoction"(温胆汤)and"San Huang decoction"(三 黄汤)for the cases with phlegm syndrome.Some drugs with the property of removing heat from blood and stopping bleeding were used at the initial stage of the disease.The method of activating blood flow and removing blood stasis is employed at intermediate stage and the method of softening hard masses and resolving nodes is used at advanced stage.Nineteen cases of occlusion of main vein were treated with six cures and twenty-two cases of occlusion of vein branches with sixteen cures,including patients who had been treated with cortison or urokinase in vain.No harmful side effect was observed. Criterion of curative effect:(1)Excellent curative effect:the vision has so improved that the patient can read four more lines than before on the visual chart or almost all of extravasated blood has been absorbed. (2)Good curative effect:the vision has so improved that the patient can read two or three more lines than before on the visual chart or the extravasated blood has been absorbed partially.(3)No curative effect at all: the patients’ vision is just about the same as it was before and no obvious absorbtion of blood.(4)Bad curative effect:the patients’ vision has declined by more than two lines on the visual chart or there is new bleeding in his retina. |
