| Thirty-four cases with crushing syndrome have been successfully treated with combined traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine.Thirty-three(97.06%)cured and one(2.94%)died.All the patients were males,age varying from 18 to 32 years.26 cases had crushing injury on one limb,8 cases had two limbs and/or the trunk crushed,the duration of crushing varying from 1(1/2)to 28 hours. Treatment was given according to different types of renal failure.For the oliguric type(30 cases),the principle of treatment was to promote circulation and combat blood stasis,to remove damp and induce diuresis,and to keep the bowels move.Measures should also be taken to replenish vital energy and promote the production of body fluid. For the polyuric type(4 cases),mothod of nourishing Yinreplenishing vital energy and reinforcing the kidney should be employed.The basic prescriptions for the two different types of renal failure are given.They are subjected to additions and subtractions according to the symptoms and signs of each individual patient.Western medical measures such as those for maintenance of fluid and electrolyte balance were also taken in combination. The diagnosis and treatment of crushing syndrome are discussed.Fasciotomy was not done in the majority of the present group of patients.It appears that indications for fasciotomy should be restricted and fasciotomy should not be regarded a routine procedure. |
