| This paper reports that α-asarone,a substance refined from volatile oil of Acorus calamus,can kill human cancer cells,such as SGC-7901,Detroit-6 and Hela.Its anticarcinogenic activation is discussed in detail.The dosage for effective action of α-asarone on ED50of SGC cells was found to be about 25μg/ml. α-Asarone was observed to cause a series of morphological changes in human carcinoma cells and finally damage them,and make them drop out and resolve,in addition to inhibition of cell multiplication. A quantitative study was made on the ability of α-asarone to kill cancer cells by counting the stained living cells and measuring cell growth rate.The effect was found to be closely associated with the concentration of the drug and reaction time.The result shows that the drug can selectively inhibit and kill human carcinoma cells with less damage to the normal HK cells. |
